Cave walk for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts
Immerse yourself in the vastness of the Hölloch and, on this one-day expedition, discover the fascinating variety of formations created by the immense power of underground waters, which have been at work for almost a million years.
Along the way, you’ll learn lots of interesting facts about the Hölloch and how it was discovered, as well as about how caves are formed and the creatures that live there. But do also take a moment to enjoy the tranquillity of this world deep within Mother Earth!
Itinerary of the cave tour
On the 9-hour cave hike to the Glitzertor, you’ll initially follow the same route as on the Wasserdom Expedition. However, once you’ve reached the old Dombiwak and the Wasserdom, the Glitzertor Expedition allows you a further 2 hours or so to explore more of the vast passages within this cave system. For example, you’ll visit the new and exclusive Hölloch Bivouac, where guests on the multi-day expedition spend the night, and then, of course, the “Glitzertor” with its shimmering crystals.
Another highlight is the ‘Snake’ – an underground, natural slide about 300 metres long – it’s great fun! You then make your way slowly back towards the cave exit via the legendary Giant Hall.
If you are in good physical condition, we highly recommend this expedition; the two extra hours compared to the Wasserdom expedition are definitely worth it! The cave tour is roughly comparable to a T3 mountain hike, although you won’t, of course, be on the move for 9 hours without a break. You’ll be making regular stops along the way, during which you can rest or have a bite to eat. The walking time alone is approximately 6–7 hours.
Please note: This tour is a nature experience; for safety reasons, the route may be adjusted.
